17 days and counting...

...until Daytona, of course. As you can see, I get a little nutty this time of year. It won't last past the Daytona race but right now it's like a kid waiting for Christmas. Ok, maybe not that bad, but if you are into football and look forward to the Superbowl for weeks, well, this is the same thing to a NASCAR fan.

I'm sure you all think I'm a little nuts; that's ok. I still maintain that NASCAR is one of the smartest marketing companies around and will write more on that as the weeks go on. But here's some information for you from my NASCAR calendar that should get you thinking....

1976 was the first time a NASCAR Cup Series race was shown live on television; only the last lap was shown (and I know we watched it at our house).

Less than 30 years later, in 2003, there was $2.1 billion worth of NASCAR merchandise sold. That's billion with a "B".

No, it wasn't all purchased by the stereotypical 'redneck'. Professional men, mom's, kids - people from every walk of life and every age and both genders purchase NASCAR items.

If you can't wait for Daytona the 28th running of the Bud Shootout is in 10 days!

Just a racing tidbit for today. Thanks for stopping by.
